Things to do in Costa Adeje

How to make the most of your free time in one of Tenerife's sunniest resorts.

Your free time

Sunshine, sea and volcanoes

Coaching fills your mornings and match play your afternoons, but there's still plenty of time to explore.

Many players also arrive a day or two early or stay on after the camp. Your week already includes an excursion: a whale and dolphin boat trip, or kayaking and snorkelling. Here are our favourite ways to spend the rest of your time.

Eight ways to spend your day

One of your excursion options

Whale and dolphin watching

Boats leave Puerto Colón marina every day. Pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins live off this coast all year round, so you have a very good chance of seeing them on a two- to five-hour trip.

Pack a warm layer

Mount Teide National Park

Spain's highest peak rises above a vast volcanic landscape, about an hour's drive from Costa Adeje. Ride the cable car for views across the island. The final path to the summit needs a separate permit, so book well ahead.

Book ahead

Barranco del Infierno

A spectacular ravine walk that starts just above Adeje town. The 6.5 km round trip takes around three and a half hours and ends at a waterfall. Visitor numbers are limited, so book online before you go.

Great for a rest day

Siam Park

Tenerife's famous Thai-themed water park is right here in Costa Adeje and open all year. Brave the Tower of Power, a near-vertical slide through a shark tank, or float along the lazy river.

Easy to reach

Playa del Duque and Fañabé

Golden-sand beaches on Costa Adeje's seafront, with calm water, sun loungers and beach bars. Ideal for a swim after a morning on court.

Best at sunset

La Caleta

A former fishing village at the western end of Costa Adeje, known for seafood restaurants right by the water. Perfect for a long lunch or a sunset dinner.

A day out

Los Gigantes and Masca

Take a boat trip beneath the towering Los Gigantes cliffs on the west coast, or head into the mountains to Masca, a tiny village perched above a dramatic gorge.

After play

Evenings on the promenade

A seafront promenade runs along the whole coast, linking beaches, bars and restaurants. Stroll at sunset, then find somewhere for dinner after the day's matches.

Before you go

Good to know

  • Tenerife South airport is about 20 to 30 minutes' drive from Costa Adeje.
  • Taxis are easy to find, and TITSA buses connect Costa Adeje with the rest of the island.
  • Permits for the Teide summit path and tickets for Barranco del Infierno are limited, so book them as early as you can.
  • It's much colder at the top of Mount Teide than on the coast, so take a jacket.
  • The sun is strong all year round. Pack high-factor sun cream and drink plenty of water, on and off court.
